Hotlinking Protection
What's the goal of hotlink protection? How does it work and when is it useful to enable it?
Hotlinking is an expression that identifies the addition of images on a given Internet site via direct links. If you have website A, for example, and a person creates website B and wants to add a few images from your site, they could either save the images and then add them on their site or they can simply place links on their website to the images on yours. Consequently, whenever a visitor opens Internet site B, site B will steal traffic from your own site A, since the images will load directly from your website hosting account. This technique is typically used for documents and other sorts of files also. If you would like to prevent 3rd parties from stealing your content and from using your own website hosting account’s resources, you are able to restrict their ability to use direct links to your files on their Internet sites.
Hotlinking Protection in Cloud Hosting
You can easily secure your content if you set up an .htaccess file within the website’s root folder, but in case you don't have previous experience, you should use our hotlink protection tool. The latter is supplied with all cloud hosting plans that we offer and could be accessed from the in-house built Hepsia CP. The protection could be activated in 2 easy steps - select the domain or subdomain for the site in question, then select if our system should set up the .htaccess file within the primary folder or inside a subfolder and you shall be ready. You do not need any coding expertise or any experience with this kind of matters, as there shall be nothing else to do. If you wish to turn off the protection at some point, you could see all the websites that are protected within the very same section of the CP with a Delete button alongside each of them.
